EOS Canon 500D

The EOS Canon 500D received a best product award from the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA), which deemed it the best European SLR camera 2009–2010. The EOS 500D is also known as the EOS Rebel T1i in regions other than Europe.

The panel of judges, who are editors of magazines on photography, audiovisual products, home theaters, and mobile devices, thought that the superb high-definition (HD) video mode of the EOS Canon 500D would inspire users to pursue amateur filmmaking. The 500D has a three-inch high-resolution LCD monitor with a Live View recording mode that gives high-quality images and low noise even in dark environments.

The high-res LCD screen is great for making detailed checks on images and video. This screen features 920,000 dots for much higher clarity. You can switch to Live View and use its real-time visual feed if you need to shoot from awkward angles.

It has already been mentioned that the EOS Canon 500D comes with the ability to shoot full HD (1080p) video. When larger amounts of footage need to be stored on your memory card, you can choose to shoot at VGA resolution (720p) instead. With an HDMI connection, you can have high-def playback of videos and images on HDTV.

The low noise in videos shot with an EOS 500D is due to the advanced noise reduction when shooting at higher ISO speeds, as well as the 15.1 MP CMOS sensor. This noise reduction is powered by the camera’s DIGIC 4 processor, which is also the reason behind its split-second startup times and almost-instantaneous image review after shooting.

Working with the CMOS sensor, the DIGIC 4 processor delivers 14-bit image processing, for natural-looking colors and smooth gradations. If you are a photographer who needs large, poster-size prints or perfectly cropped images with no loss of any of the detail necessary for printing, then the 500D’s CMOS sensor is the reason why it delivers both of these needs. The CMOS sensor is also outstanding in low-light environments. Still on the subject of low light, the EOS Canon 500D has an ISO range up to 3200, expandable to 12800, for those times when light levels fall or for those environments in which you would rather not use the flash.

Another feature worth mentioning is the EOS integrated cleaning system. It is Canon’s built-in system for protecting images from dust damage, which works by reducing internal dust generation and mapping stubborn dust spots for removal. The system also has an in-camera sensor cleaning mechanism.

The EOS Canon 500D can be used with any of Canon’s EF and EF-S lenses and with the EX-series Speedlites. You can make your 500D shooting system as unique as you are.
